Career Portfolio Components

A Career Plan is a tool you develop and use to prepare for a "lifelong career".

  1. Resume

  2. Grade transcripts and/or address of your school's administrative offices (so the employer can obtain a transcript)

  3. Letter of recommendation, or your school's address that will send letter to employer

  4. A list of references

  5. Your diplomas and any certificates that you have earned

  6. Awards and certificates of recognition

  7. Projects, publications, or examples of your work that are appropriate to demonstrate your skills and past successes related to the field in which you are seeking employment

Examples might be:

  • High school science projects, if interviewing for a science related scholarship or job

  • Slides of artwork, if interviewing for an internship in graphic arts

  • Articles you have written and that were published in the school's newspaper, if applying for a job that involves writing
  • Samples of desktop publishing documents, spreadsheets, or databases you created that demonstrate your ability in the use of various software packages
