Moving a Window:

 

  1. Double-click on “My Computer” icon.
  2. Click on restore/down button to make window smaller.
  3. On the “Title Bar”, place the arrow (cursor) on the dark blue area.
  4. Left click the mouse button once –hold the button down, and drag the “My Computer” icon window to the upper right side of the desktop.
  5. Now, click on the “Title Bar” again and drag “My Computer” icon window to the

      upper left side of the desktop.

 

 

Opening a Window:

 

  1. Left click once the Start Button
  2. Left click once the Programs button
  3. Left-click once on  the Office/XP button
  4. Left click once on Word, this opens a word document.
  5. Go to “File” on menu bar, select open.  If you don’t see open, use the double v’s (this means more options are available) click on the double v’s and select “open”.
  6. Select “Desktop” (located on left side of window) OR (click on address window pull

Down menu and select “Desktop”.

  1. Double-click “Student Folder”.
  2. Double-click “S. Jackson-IT 101” folder.
  3. Click back button icon– current window disappears and previous window

Is now the current window (student folder).

  1. Click back button again, current window disappears.
  2. With this technique, you will notice that none of the windows will appear in the

Status bar.

 

 

Closing a Window #1 and #2:

 

  1. On desktop double-click on “Student Folder”, click on minimize button.  Window disappears into task bar
  2. Double click on Start Button, click on Programs, select Office/XP then select Word .  Click on minimize button.  Window disappears into status bar.
  3. Go to status bar and select Word document by Left-click once.
  4. Click once the upper right hand corner where the “X” is located, this is the close button –current window disappears and previous window is now located in the task bar.
  5. Click on document in task bar to open. Now, go to “File” and select “close” or “Exit” by clicking once.
  6. You will be asked if you want to save changes-select no – window disappears.

 

Navigating a window:

 

  1. Go to "My computer" and double click to open.
  2. Maximize window – this will enlarge window.
  3. Click on “View” menu and select “Details”
  4. Use scroll bar on right side to navigate contents.
  5. When navigating always make sure your window is maximized for better view.  Some windows will not have a scroll bar, as their contents do not exceed the window size.
