Juvenile Justice Teen Parent -- Collaboration
Model Overview The New Mexico GRADS System, a proven program for
parenting teens and and their children; the New
Mexico Teen Pregnancy Coalition, New Mexico Young Father’s Project; and the
Juvenile Justice Services of the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families
Department, have collaborated to develop this project model to help meet the
needs of parenting adjudicated youth. Project The mission of this project is to meet the needs of
parenting adjudicated youth using the combined resources of the collaborative
partners in providing appropriate instruction, case management, mentoring
specific to the needs of the teen parent, and family visitation methodologies all
of which foster building life skills, healthy relationships, parent-child
bonding, the pursuit of higher education and economic self-sufficiency in this
high-risk population. Objectives for NM GRADS in JJS Sites q
To
encourage father/child bonding by providing and monitoring regular visitations. q
To facilitate
the occurrence of regular individual and therapeutic group sessions while
promoting connection with community helping resources. q
To
facilitate completion of high school, the pursuit of higher education, and the
attainment of employability skills for adjudicated teen parents. q
To promote
all aspects of health, positive parenting skills, and healthy relationships. q
To
encourage personal responsibility for family planning. q
To
encourage involvement of father’s in their children’s physical, emotional,
mental and social development. q
To reduce
risk-taking behaviors of all participating adolescents while promoting personal
growth, decision making skills and economic self-sufficiency as socially
responsible members of society. |
